We start with stories...

You might call them something else – perspectives, mindsets, purpose, challenges, lived experiences, or life events. We call them stories. Stories are representations of your experiences and choices, and you express your stories in different ways. From the way that you process your thoughts and emotions to the way you manage manage your conflicts and stressors, you are constantly telling and listening to stories about yourself, your relationship with others, and your place in the world.

Stories like mental health worries, identity crises, failure, grief, and burnout are hardly ever expressed, but they often become the overriding narratives that shape your sense of self. Without the right kind of attention, these stories eat away at who you are until you become a shadow of yourself; feeling too tired, too stressed out, too flawed, and too broken to remember your own purpose.

That’s why our mental health skill-building and stress-reduction work starts with stories. We bring attention to the untold ones; the ones that are not narrated, recounted, or disclosed. Sometimes these stories are difficult and painful to face, but you know you need to address them in order to find your way back to a better state of mental health and well-being.

Our experience with narrative and lived experience studies, mental health recovery, and mindfulness-based stress reduction helps us put stories at the centre of what we do. We help people turn their stories of mental health worries into stories of resilience. Identity crises become stories about finding an authentic self. Ruminations about failure and grief become stories of progress and meaning. And experiences with burnout become stories of finding balance.

How do we do it? With workshops that build resilience and mental health skills, a community that fosters well-being practice and support, and tools that help you tell new stories.

Are you ready to experience the power of your stories? Let's Begin!

The theme for August is ‘Practicing Gratitude for Mental Wellness.' We're sharing resources about how a gratitude mindset helps improve our mental health and well-being and talking about what it takes to find gratitude in the darkest moments. We are using the 30-Day Re-storying Gratitude Challenge to teach-show-do gratitude as a mental health and self-care practice.

Testimonials

★★★★★

"What better way is there to learn and practice mental and emotional well-being than by taking a workshop? Yes, you could read a book or listen to a podcast, but it's not the same as sitting with other people in the same room and discovering that you are not doing this alone."

Allison P.
★★★★★

"I did the mountain meditation with Patlee. At the end of the session I had the strength to take me through the day. I felt stronger and taller like a 'mountain'. I was able to focus on what was important and not have small problems wear me down. Thank you Patlee!!"

"I love connecting through narrative and these studio sessions help make my own journaling work feel more interesting, meaningful, and insightful. I've been able to reach a deeper ability to pin down peripheral thoughts into something enlightening and meaningful. The open discussions and different perspectives have pushed my thoughts and understandings in new directions. It's exciting and I feel connected in new and gratifying ways."

Heal Ourselves

We all have untold stories. Like towering trees with deep and unseen roots, we each have stories that we tend to not talk about. These are our stories of fear, resilience, shame, triumph, struggle, loss of a loved one, and even loss of self. But they are also stories of resilience, bravery, triumph, truth, and finding our authenticity...
